I highly recommend this book to you guys! You should read this :P It’s really inspiring! Anyway, the story is about an Andalusia shepherd boy named Santiago who ventures from his homeland in Spain to North Africa in search of a treasured buried in the pyramids. Along the way he meets beautiful young gypsy woman, a man who calls himself a king, and an alchemist, all of whom point Santiago in direction of his quest. No one knows what the treasure is or if Santiago can surmount the obstacles along the way through the desert. But what starts out as a boyish adventure to discover exotic places and worldly wealth turns into a quest for the treasures only found within. Lush, evocative, and deeply humane, Santiago’s story is an eternal testament to following our dreams and listening to our hearts.
Here are some of the beautiful lines that I got from the story, there’s a lot more, I did not put them all here, it’s for you to find out:
v If someone isn’t what others want them to be, then others become angry. Everyone seems to have a clear idea of how people should lead their lives, but none about his or her own.
v At a certain point in our lives, we lose control of what’s happening to us, and our lives become controlled by fate. That’s the world’s greatest lie.
v Whoever you are, or whatever it is that you do, when you really want something, it’s because that desire originated in the soul of the universe. It’s your mission on earth.
v The soul of the world is nourished by people’s happiness. And also by uniqueness, envy and jealousy. To realize one’s Personal Legend is a person’s only real obligation. All things are one.
v When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it
v If you start out by promising what you don’t even have yet, you’ll lose your desire to work toward getting it.
v In any case, it’s good that you’ve learned that everything in life has its price.
v Sometimes, it’s better to leave things as they are.
v The secret of happiness is to see all the marvels of the world, and never to forget the drops of oil on the spoon.
v You must always know what it is that you want.
v There was a language in the world that everyone understood. It’s the language of enthusiasm of things accomplish with love and purpose, and as part of search for something believed I and desired.
v Making a decision was only the beginning of things. When someone makes a decision, he is really diving into a strong current that will carry him to places he had never dreamed of when he first made the decision.
v The closer one gets to realize his Personal Legend, the more the Personal Legends becomes his true reason for being.
v Intuition is really a sudden immersion of the soul into the universal current of life, where the histories of all people are connected, and we are able to know everything, because it’s all within there.
v People need not fear he unknown if they are capable of achieving what they need and want.
v We are afraid of losing what we have, whether it’s one’s life or our possessions and property. But this fear evaporates when we understand that our life stories and the history of the world were written by the same hand.
v When you want something with all you heart, that’s when you are closest to the soul of the world. It’s always a positive force.
v Everything on earth is being continuously transformed, because the earth is alive, and it has soul. We are part of that soul, so we rarely recognize that it is working for us.
v Because I don’t live in either my past or my future. I’m interested only in the present. If you can concentrate always on the present, you’ll be a happy man. You’ll see that there is a life in the desert, that there are stars in heaven, and that tribesmen fight because they are part of the human race. Life will be a party for you, a grand festival; because life is the moment we’re living right now.
v Things have to be transmitted this way because they were made up from the pure life, and this kind of life cannot be captured in pictures or words.
v The secret is here in the present. If you pay attention to the present, you can improve upon it. And if you improve on the present, what comes later will also be better. Forget about the future and live each day according to the teachings, confident that God loves his children. Each day, in itself, brings with it an eternity.
v God only rarely reveals the future. When he does so, it is for only one reason: it’s a future that was written so as to be altered.
v Be careful with your prognostications, when something is written, there’s no way to change it.
v You must understand that love never keeps a man from pursuing his personal legend. If he abandons that pursuit, it’s because it wasn’t true love, the love that speaks the language of the world.
v If what one finds is made of pure matter, it will never spoil and one can always come back. If what you had found was only a moment of light, like the explosion f a star, you wont find nothing on your return
v Wherever your heart is, that is where you’ll find the treasure.
v Treason is a blow that comes unexpectedly. If you know your heart well, it will never be able to do that to you, because you’ll know its dreams and wishes and will know how to deal with them.
